Simulation of semi-active suspension systems using fuzzy PID control
Abstract
In this study, a fuzzy PID controller is developed for a semi-active suspension system. A simulation model incorporating the fuzzy PID control scheme is established using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results reveal that, in comparison with a passive suspension, the PID-controlled semi-active suspension leads to a reduction of 11.09% in vertical acceleration of the vehicle body, 19.01% in dynamic suspension deflection, and 2.83% in dynamic tire load. Under fuzzy PID control, these improvements reach 14.97%, 21.39%, and 3.43%, respectively. These findings suggest that the fuzzy PID control strategy achieves favourable performance under typical road conditions, effectively improving ride smoothness and passenger comfort, thereby demonstrating considerable potential for engineering applications.
