Abstract

A compact, wide band circularly polarized antenna array for mm wave frequency bands has been presented in this article. The proposed design exhibits very simple structure with of chamfered circular patch utilized with meta surface and sequential rotation feeding mechanism to enhance the impedance and axial ratio bandwidth. The single element achieves the wide bandwidth of 7.78 GHz (22.39 GHz-30.14 GHz) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 850 MHz (23.57-24.42) with the inclusion of metasurface. Further, the single elements are extended and arranged in linear manner in the form of 1×4 array, which results into beam scanning up to θ = ±16° and θ = ±14° for 24 and 28 GHz. Finally, to achieve the axial ratio purity, a 2×2 element antenna array has been designed using sequential rotation feeding mechanism. The final proposed design achieves the impedance bandwidth of 10.2 GHz (21.8-32 GHz) additional axial ratio near 28 GHz frequency band. The final design has been fabricated and results are quite promising with simulated ones making it suitable for various 5G automotive wireless applications.
