Innovando en moulage de bajo costo para quemaduras: experiencia peruana en simulación clínica
Abstract
Burns constitute a severe public health problem in Peru and several countries within the region, associated with significant morbidity and mortality that demands continuous, high-quality medical training to mitigate their impact on emergency care. In this report, we describe the experience of the Healthcare Simulation & Medical Education (HeSIM) group at the Universidad Científica del Sur in the design and development of a moulage methodology aimed at recreating burns using everyday, easily accessible materials. We document the process through a sequential photographic series that depicts the anatomical and clinical consistency of the lesions represented for all three burn degrees. No formal measurements of face validity, content validity, or the educational impact of the technique were conducted. We conclude that this experience serves as an accessible methodological alternative for resource-limited institutions, with an estimated average cost of PEN 2.78 (USD 0.74) per lesion. We propose its detailed description as a foundation for future formal evaluations of its validity and pedagogical impact.
