Coordinated Control of Grid Integrated PV–Battery Architecture for Overvoltage Mitigation in High-PV Distribution Networks
Abstract
The exponential integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), particularly solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, into low-voltage (LV) distribution networks has introduced critical challenges regarding voltage stability. In high-impedance feeders with low $X / R$ ratios, excessive PV generation during light-load periods frequently triggers overvoltage at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC), often exceeding statutory regulation limits. To address this, this paper proposes a multi-objective control for grid-integrated PV-Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Unlike conventional methods that rely on power curtailment, the proposed strategy leverages a hierarchical control architecture to dynamically manage active power flow, ensuring PCC voltage regulation while maximizing renewable energy utilization. Furthermore, a BESS sizing methodology and a technoeconomic assessment are presented to enhance the network's hosting capacity. MATLAB/Simulink results demonstrate that the proposed coordination effectively maintains voltage within prescribed limits (1.06 pu) and ensures rapid DC-link stabilization under transient conditions.
