Abstract

Between 2022 and 2024, China’s foreign policy strategy toward Taiwan underwent significant changes amid transformations in the international environment, particularly in Europe and Asia. As the world’s second-largest economy and a key regional actor, China has entered a new era of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, in which the Communist Party of China serves as the primary driving force. One of the priority objectives of China’s foreign policy has been the return of Taiwan to the People’s Republic of China. Against the backdrop of global changes, as well as processes unfolding within the People’s Republic of China itself, Beijing’s approach toward both the island’s administration and the population of Taiwan has been evolving, with the aim of exerting influence and achieving reunification through peaceful means. Historically, Taiwan has experienced a decline in broad diplomatic support while remaining under the informal protection of the United States. This factor compels Beijing to develop a comprehensive strategy combining economic, informational, and diplomatic pressure. At the current stage, China’s policy is characterized by flexibility and assertiveness, underscoring its determination to resolve the Taiwan issue in the interests of national unity and the protection of state sovereignty.
