Rekonstruksi Fungsi Koridor Sekolah sebagai Ekosistem Literasi Informal melalui Media Visual Edukatif Environmental Print
Abstract
School corridors are generally used as circulation areas, although they have the potential to support literacy activities through students’ everyday exposure to texts and information. This activity aimed to reconstruct the function of the corridor at SMP Negeri 1 Secang, Magelang Regency, as part of an informal literacy ecosystem through the use of educational visual media based on environmental print. The activity employed a participatory approach, or participatory Action Research (PAR), involving school members in identifying conditions, planning, media development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The developed media consisted of literacy boards made of banners mounted on frames and installed in the upper-middle part of the corridor. A total of 14 literacy boards were installed, consisting of 13 boards measuring 60 x 40 cm and one board measuring 150 x 60 cm. Each board contained content on both sides, providing 28 educational visual content in total. The materials covered language, numeracy, science, technology, motivation, health, environmental issues, and information related to students’ everyday lives. The results showed functional information of the corridor from an area predominantly used for circulation into a space that also provides exposure to educational texts and information beyond formal classroom learning. The reconstruction provides students with opportunities to interact with literacy materials more naturally as part of their daily school routines. The sustainability of the program requires regular maintenance of the media and periodic content updates.
