Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Jigsaw learning model on improving the maharah kalam (Arabic speaking skills) of seventh-grade students at SMP Sunan Kalijogo 3 Jabung. This research employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 32 students selected through total sampling. The research instrument was a speaking test that had previously met the validity and reliability requirements. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, paired sample t-tests, and N-Gain analysis with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics. The results showed that all instrument items were valid, with correlation coefficients exceeding the r-table value (0.3494), while the reliability test yielded a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.724. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed (Sig. = 0.330), and the homogeneity test confirmed homogeneous data (Sig. = 0.070). The average pretest score increased from 58.75 to 82.50 on the posttest. Furthermore, the paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between students' speaking abilities before and after the implementation of the Jigsaw learning model. The average N-Gain score was 0.4822, categorized as moderate, indicating that the Jigsaw learning model was moderately effective in improving students' Arabic speaking skills. Therefore, the Jigsaw learning model can be considered an effective alternative for enhancing maharah kalam in Arabic language learning at the junior secondary school level.
