This editorial refers to ‘Feasibility and clinical significance of cardiovascular magnetic resonance derived hemodynamic force assessment in aortic valve stenosis’, by S.J. Backhaus et al. The study by Backhaus et al. 1 enters a central debate in aortic stenosis: the search for the optimal timing of valve replacement has shifted attention from the valve to the myocardium.
