An indigenous strain of Priestia aryabhattai XT78 is characterized as an indigenous multifunctional inoculant for Mn biotransformation, rhizosphere detoxification, and tailings bioremediation, highlighting the potential of P. aryabhattai as an indigenous multifunctional inoculant for Mn biotransformation.
Abstract
Miscanthus sinensis, a pioneer species in manganese (Mn) tailings, can survive under high Mn stress. However, its rhizosphere microorganisms involved in Mn biotransformation and detoxification remain poorly understood. This study characterized an indigenous strain, Priestia aryabhattai XT78, isolated from the rhizosphere of M. sinensis at in situ Mn tailings. Multi-omics and physiological analyses supported the involvement of both multicopper oxidase-associated oxidation and pH elevation in XT78-mediated Mn(II) oxidation, leading to the formation of lamellar and network-like biogenic Mn oxides. In pot experiments, XT78 inoculation facilitated rhizosphere colonization, decreased soil Mn(II) by 21.3%, increased Mn(III/IV) by 22.7%, and improved soil nutrients. XT78 inoculation was also associated with shifts in microbial community structure and enrichment of taxa (Acidobacteriota, Gemmatimonadota, and Firmicutes) associated with metal resistance, Mn oxidation, and biofilm formation. These changes were accompanied by improved plant growth, including increased biomass and chlorophyll content, enhanced root development through indole-acetamide pathway-associated indole-3-acetic acid synthesis, and reduced Mn translocation. These findings highlight the potential of P. aryabhattai as an indigenous multifunctional inoculant for Mn biotransformation, rhizosphere detoxification, and tailings bioremediation.
Heavy metal pollution, particularly cadmium (Cd), threatens coastal marine ecosystems and foundational species like the seagrass Zostera marina. Here, a multi-extremophilic phyllosphere bacterium, Exiguobacterium aurantiacum S11, was isolated to investigate its capacity and multi-dimensional molecular networks in mitig...

Vegetables such as spinach, celery, water spinach, and edible mushrooms are more prone to heavy metal accumulation. While the mechanism of heavy metal accumulation in vegetables and whether it is related to endophytic microorganisms remain unclear. In this study, we isolated an endophytic microorganism, A. lwoffii MA1,...

Increasing salinity threatens coastal mangrove ecosystems worldwide by impairing plant growth, physiological function, and biochemical processes, ultimately reducing productivity and survival. The present study was conducted to examine the impact of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on Avicennia marina under different...
Despite elevated heavy metal concentrations in the Zeïda mining area (High Moulouya, Morocco), the rhizosphere of the native metallophyte Astragalus armatus harbored a diverse community of rhizobacteria with strong plant growth-promoting capacities. This study aimed to evaluate the biotechnological potential of these r...

The present study focuses on the bioprospection of plant growth‐promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), with particular emphasis on ACC deaminase (ACCD) production. In a preliminary screening, rhizospheric soil from seven weed plants from the semidesert of Coahuila was collected, and 55 ACCD+ bacteria were isolated in DF (Dwor...
