Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Practices: Legal Framework and Business Performance
Abstract
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices have become an essential part of sustainable business management, affecting corporate governance, regulatory compliance, stakeholder trust and long-term financial outcomes. This study examines the legal framework of ESG practices and assesses its impact on the performance of businesses in the contemporary corporate world. It explores the relevant laws, regulatory guidance and governance standards that promote environmental responsibility, social accountability and ethical corporate conduct. The study also investigates the contribution of the effectiveness of ESG implementation to operational efficiency, risk management, investor confidence, brand image, and sustainable competitive advantage. The research is doctrinal and analytical and uses secondary data, namely legal provisions, corporate reports and the scholarly literature to identify the opportunities and challenges of ESG compliance. The findings suggest that organizations that implement ESG principles into their business strategies experience higher governance standards, increased stakeholder trust, and improved long-term financial and non-financial performance, thereby fostering sustainable corporate growth and responsible business practices.
