Automatic Generation of Finite State Machines for Modular Robot Systems

Sep 2026 · IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation · pp. 1-7 · 0 citations · 36 references

Abstract

The automation of flexible production systems using robots is becoming increasingly critical for modern manufacturing to ensure market adaptability. However, integrating multiple hardware and software components into a cohesive robot system remains highly complex, requiring deep expertise in programming and robotics that forces companies to rely on costly external experts. To address this, this contribution proposes a method, which partly generates the system automation for multi-component robot systems based on lightweight design specifications. This approach significantly reduces engineering costs and simplifies system integration by lowering the barrier to entry for operators, while remaining fully compatible with prominent skill-based engineering frameworks like the Capability Skill Service (CSS). Consequently, this shifts the capability to configure and utilize robotic systems from external integrators to internal operators, paving the way for more agile and cost-effective industrial automation.
