Abstract
Electrophotocatalysis is the latest offshoot of two of the most innovative synthetic approaches in modern organic chemistry: on one hand, photoredox catalysis, which harnesses light to activate small molecules and construct new carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bonds; and on the other, electrochemistry, which allows fine control over oxidation states while avoiding the use of stoichiometric redox reagents. The combination of light and electricity as energy sources has enabled access to high‐energy excited states with considerable redox potentials, opening new synthetic avenues. In this review, the key aspects of this methodology are discussed, and the most relevant recent applications of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis are presented. Furthermore, the prominent role of polycyclic aromatic compounds as electrophotocatalysts is highlighted, supported by several illustrative examples.
Organoboronates and organoboronic acids are important and versatile building blocks in organic synthesis, in materials science, and in medicinal chemistry as carboxylic acid bioisosteres. The most employed reactions to generate organoboronates are transmetallation and hydroboration of olefins. However, as carboxylic ac...

The introduction of nitrogen-containing heterocycles, especially pyridine rings, into polycyclic compounds is expected to enhance their antimicrobial activities and modulate their fluorescence properties. A novel visible-light-induced dearomative heteroarylation of anthracenes with cyanoarenes has been developed. Combi...

Water represents an ideal reaction medium for green chemistry. However, the scarcity of water‐soluble catalysts has long hampered the expansion of organic synthesis in water as a sole solvent. Herein, we report that the diazabenzacenaphthenium cation N‐BAP serves as a water‐soluble photoredox catalyst that enables the...

Ketyl radicals are pivotal intermediates for constructing secondary and tertiary alcohols. This review summarizes recent advances (since 2024) in their electrochemical generation via umpolung of carbonyl compounds. Unlike traditional methods, these approaches avoid strong reductants or photocatalysts, offering improved...
