Proposal and Demonstration of Methods for Steel Reuse

Abstract

In recent years, building the circular built environment has become an urgent priority. However, the reuse of steel structures in construction field has not progressed due to lack of the technical evaluation methods, quality assurance systems, and legal frameworks. Although many dismantled steel members keep the structural soundness, they are not reused sufficiently and are collected as scrap. A further challenge with the reuse of steel is expected from the perspectives of effective resource utilization and decarbonization.
