Short-term peak-shaving scheduling of a cascade hydro-wind-PV-pumped storage system considering cumulative forecast deviations
Abstract
The high penetration of wind and photovoltaic (PV) power increases the peak-shaving pressure on the power grid, while limited forecast accuracy lets wind-PV deviations accumulate over consecutive dispatch periods. Neglecting these cumulative deviations in scheduling may leave the allocated electricity reserve insufficient, increasing the risk of renewable curtailment and power shortage. This paper proposes a short-term peak-shaving model with reserve-energy constraints, applied to a hydro-wind-PV-storage system in Southwest China, where a variable-speed hybrid pumped-storage station is retrofitted between two cascade hydropower stations. Case studies show that the model effectively reduces the residual-load peak-valley difference while maintaining adequate reserve margins.
