Redshift space distortions (RSD) provide a powerful measurement of structure formation in modern cosmology. In this work, we explore the potential of 21cm intensity mapping with the MeerKAT Large Area Synoptic Survey (MeerKLASS) to detect RSD and probe gravity within the redshift range of MeerKAT's UHF band ($0.4<z<1.45$). Using simulated sky observations, we examine the impact from observational effects caused by blind foreground removal and MeerKAT's primary beam, plus $k$-cuts to the measurements. With a multipole expansion formalism, we demonstrate how the quadrupole of the HI power spectrum can be modelled and also show how a foreground transfer function can reconstruct the distorted signal. With 1,115 deg$^2$ of simulated MeerKLASS observations at $0.4<z<1.0$, our proposed analysis pipeline reveals a $6.7\sigma$ detection of an RSD-induced quadrupole relative to one caused by anisotropic observational effects alone. We also explore parameter inference with the full MeerKLASS 10,000 deg$^2$ survey. Within forecasts, we demonstrate how a tomographic analysis across the full UHF redshift range can be leveraged to address certain parameter degeneracies with e.g. the HI bias ($b_{\rm HI}$) and cosmic density of HI ($\Omega_{\rm HI}$). By adopting a redshift-dependent model for the bias and HI density combined with simulation-informed priors, we demonstrate how degeneracies can be alleviated, and indicate the potential for MeerKLASS to reach competitive precision on simple probes of modified gravity.
We present simulations of the microwave sky at 2.5 arcsecond resolution over 100 square degrees, generated from existing full-sky, lower-resolution simulations, and use them to demonstrate extragalactic foreground removal for a CMB-HD survey. Our cleaning method detects and removes the cosmic infrared background and ra...

Cross-correlating the 21\,cm signal from intergalactic neutral hydrogen with the galaxy distribution is a powerful probe of the Epoch of Reionization and the physical mechanisms driving it. While upcoming surveys with the SKA-Low radio telescope and the Roman Space Telescope offer ideal synergies for this measurement,...

We present the first detection of the cosmological 21 cm intensity mapping signal in autocorrelation at z ∼ 1 with the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME). Using 94 nights of observation, we have measured the 21 cm auto power spectrum over a frequency range of 608.2–707.8 MHz (z = 1.34–1.01) at 0.4 h...

Observations of Faraday rotation in the lensing galaxy of CLASS B1152+199 at z = 0.439 suggest that efficient dynamo mechanisms had already amplified galactic magnetic fields by this epoch. We assess the reliability of this method for deriving magnetic field strengths and the likelihood of observing similarly large Far...

Motivated by curiosity as to whether the observed Universe at low redshifts is well described by the concordance cosmological model, we investigate the large scale angular clustering of extragalactic neutral hydrogen HI sources in the local Universe. Using the second data release of the FAST All Sky HI Survey (FASHI),...
The matter power spectrum is one of the primary statistical descriptors of the large-scale distribution of matter in the Universe and provides a powerful probe of cosmic structure formation. Measurements of cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing offer an integrated view of the matter distribution over a wide range o...
