Using BMS is a safe and effective method to treat iliac vein stenosis with ipsilateral AVG according to a single-center retrospective analysis of a small case series in hemodialysis patients with lower extremity arteriovenous grafts.

Abstract

Abstract Objective To analyze the possible etiology and evaluate the technical and clinical outcomes of using bare metal stents for the treatment of central venous stenosis (CVS) in the lower extremity with ipsilateral hemodialysis access. Methods A single-center retrospective analysis of a small case series was conducted in hemodialysis patients with lower extremity arteriovenous grafts (AVG) who were treated with bare metal stents (BMS) for symptomatic iliac vein stenosis between April 2016 and June 2021. Patients’ demographic data, technical details, adverse events, clinical outcomes, and imaging data were recorded. Results The study cohort comprised seven females and four males, with a mean age of 58.8 ± 13.4 years. Preoperative lower limb venography was performed in nine patients scheduled for AVG creation. With the exception of one case demonstrating left iliac vein compression, the iliac veins were patent in all other patients. Symptoms of lower limb swelling developed at a mean interval of 9.40 ± 5.83 months (range: 3–20 months) following AVG placement. Eight cases had a concomitant history of temporary ipsilateral femoral vein catheterization. Lesion characteristics included nine stenotic lesions and two occlusive lesions. All patients were treated with SMART Control stents (Cordis Corp, USA). The technical success rate was 100%, and symptomatic relief was achieved in all cases. Over a mean follow-up period of 47.8 ± 31.7 months (range: 10–123 months), the target lesion primary patency was 100% (one-side confidence interval [CI] = 0.74,1). Conclusions Using BMS is a safe and effective method to treat iliac vein stenosis with ipsilateral AVG.

Short-term outcomes of Solaris self-expanding covered stent in iliac artery occlusive disease: a single-center retrospective cohort.

In a real-world cohort with a high proportion of complex iliac lesions, the Solaris self-expanding covered stent demonstrated excellent technical success, durable short-term patency, and favorable clinical outcomes, suggesting that this device may provide a durable endovascular solution for challenging iliac anatomy wh...

Clinical outcomes of carotid artery stenting in an experienced center

Carotid artery stenting (CAS) is increasingly used as an alternative revascularization strategy for carotid artery stenosis, particularly in selected patients treated at experienced centers. The aim of this study was to evaluate procedural safety, technical performance, and clinical outcomes of CAS performed using a un...

Case report and literature review of stent detachment after vertebral artery stenting

This study presents a case of severe stenosis at the origin of the left vertebral artery, which was complicated by stent detachment after stent implantation. We carried out a retrospective analysis of the patient's clinical data and undertook a review of relevant literature. Our goals were to investigate potential risk...

Long-term safety and efficacy of endovascular therapy in the lower extremity

Aim Endovascular therapy has become the preferred revascularization method for lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD), offering reduced procedural morbidity compared with open surgery. However, real-world data on its long-term durability and safety in complex lesions remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the lo...

Cross-elbow stent placement for refractory arteriovenous fistula stenosis and chronic total occlusion in hemodialysis patients: a single-center retrospective cohort of 42 cases

Abstract Cross-elbow stent placement in hemodialysis arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) has been avoided due to risks of fracture, kinking, deformation, migration, and infection. However, elbow lesions may be refractory to angioplasty and progress to chronic total occlusion (CTO). We evaluated the safety, feasibility, and p...

Endovascular management of vascular complications in hemodialysis patients: a single-center experience

Background/aim: Vascular access failure remains a major cause of morbidity in patients undergoing hemodialysis. This study aimed to evaluate the types of endovascular interventions performed for hemodialysis-related vascular complications, as well as their technical success and patency outcomes, at a single center.
