Gianfranco Selgas. Regionalismo ensamblado: cultura, ecología política y extractivismos en Latinoamérica (1930-1940)
Abstract
Regionalist literature, often identified with the so-called “literature of the land” (literatura de la tierra), has traditionally been characterized by a positivist view of human relations and their connection to nature, projecting an idealized image of territory. Gianfranco Selgas’s book, Regionalismo ensamblado, cultura, ecología política y extractivismos en Latinoamérica (1930-1940), proposes new perspectives and questions regarding this genre and its timeframe: How can the environmental humanities offer new keys to interpreting regionalist literature? In what ways does 1930s–1940s Latin American culture enable us to understand the dynamics of the Capitalocene, and in what sense did the regionalism of this decade operate as a political ecology?
