El aggiornamento conciliar y su impacto en la Iglesia Católica uruguaya: documentos pastorales en tiempos de crisis (1967)
Abstract
Amid the social and political crisis, the escalation of violence, and the growing violation of human rights since the 1960s, the Uruguayan bishops, with some exceptions, expressed their determined position through various documents. They called on Christians to maintain firm solidarity and tenacious resistance to the events that surprised a calm population every day. Faced with the gradual collapse of democratic institutions and repression, the bishops did not hesitate to address the then President of the Republic. In this complex context, the objective of this work is the discursive analysis of two documents emanating from the Uruguayan episcopal authority in 1967, seeking to understand how the new guidelines of the universal church permeated the country's complex sociopolitical situation prior to the military dictatorship.
