Raitha Mitra: A Scalable AI-ML Architecture For Digital Farming
Abstract
Farmers in India often struggle to access markets directly, which reduces their profits and forces them to rely heavily on intermediaries. To address this challenge, we propose Raitha Mitra, a multilingual web application designed to connect farmers directly with buyers through role-based portals for Farmers, Buyers, and Administrators. Built using modern web technologies such as React and TypeScript, and supported by a Firebase backend with real-time database functionality and language localization, the platform enables seamless and transparent transactions. Through Raitha Mitra, farmers can list their produce, set fair prices, manage inventory, and receive secure payments, while buyers can easily browse and purchase fresh produce directly from farmers. The system’s modular and scalable design ensures ease of use and accessibility, particularly for rural users through regional language support. Pilot evaluations of the platform showed improvements in market transparency, user engagement, and farmer income. By reducing dependency on middlemen, minimizing wastage, and enabling fair pricing through direct trade, Raitha Mitra demonstrates the potential of digital platforms to empower farmers. Overall, the system contributes to equitable agricultural commerce and supports India’s broader goals of rural digitization and economic inclusion.
