In this paper, we present a reconfigurable digital two-dimensional metasurface consisting of an 8 × 8 matrix of specialized unit cells that can dynamically switch between two resonance modes at 11 MHz and 13.56 MHz. By carefully designing defect-based metamaterial cavities, flexible waveguides are formed while effectively minimizing leakage and transmission losses typically observed in homogeneous structures. Analyses, simulations, and experiments verify that the proposed metasurface enables diverse magneto-inductive wave propagation patterns on a single physical platform under a deep subwavelength mechanism. Furthermore, a step-defect configuration is introduced and experimentally validated, demonstrating its effectiveness in suppressing reflections and impedance mismatch while enhancing transmission efficiency when the receiver is moved to arbitrary positions on the metasurface. The unidirectional waveguide achieves transmission coefficients of

Complete and efficient manipulation of electromagnetic (EM) waves is a cornerstone for creating advanced functional devices. However, conventional single-layer passive metasurfaces often face an intrinsic trade-off between phase-modulation range and reflection efficiency. To overcome this limitation, we propose and dem...
This work presents the design, fabrication, and experimental validation of a circular metasurface (MTS)-cladded waveguide that enables electromagnetic propagation below its natural cutoff frequency. A lumped-element model based on a coupled-resonator lattice is introduced to describe the cladding MTS behavior and to pr...

A broadband magnetically tunable reflective metasurface based on magnetized graphene is presented for terahertz cross-polarization conversion. The metasurface adopts a three-layer stacked configuration consisting of a patterned graphene resonator, a dielectric spacer, and a metallic ground plane. Under perpendicular ma...

Emerging high frequency wireless sensing and communication systems often leverage metasurfaces to modulate the signal propagation, thereby transcending Snell's law. Yet, existing metasurfaces are either active, which is constantly sustained by electrical power, or passive, which cannot be reconfigured. In this paper, w...

Metallic proximity degrades near-field communication (NFC) performance by inducing eddy currents and distorting the coils magnetic field. Conventional NFC systems typically employ ferrite sheets to mitigate these effects. In this work, we propose a thin metasurface composed of an array of capacitor-loaded split-ring re...

In this work, an all-dielectric metasurface employing symmetry-breaking engineering is designed to support multiple quasi-BIC (quasi-BICs) for refractive index sensing applications. The unit cell is composed of two silicon elliptical nanopillars, a centrally positioned rectangular nanobar, and a symmetrically etched sl...
