Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to explore the operational challenges and directions for building a sustainable village education community in connection with the Education Development Special Zone policy in Ganghwa County, Incheon. Method: Two focus group discussions were conducted with village education activists, parent organization activists, and education experts, and the collected data were analyzed inductively. Results: Four meta-themes emerged: the educational recontextualization of local resources, translation and coordination between schools and communities, the establishment of a public trust system, and the transition from an Education Development Special Zone to a local educational ecosystem. Conclusion: To ensure the sustainability of village education communities, it is necessary to promote the educational use of local resources, establish co-creation governance and a public trust system, and build a long-term local educational ecosystem.
