Abstract

Understanding the geodynamic processes of a region requires a detailed study of geothermal parameters within the Earth’s crust. In this study, Curie depth and surface heat flow were estimated using modified centroid method and 1-D Fourier law respective beneath lower and middle Benue trough in Nigeria. The calculated values for the Curie depth beneath the study area is 11 km at Abakaliki and 27 km over the area of Anambra basin. Surface heat flow is also found between 54 mWm-2 around Anambra basin and 132 mWm-2 around Abakaliki anticlinorium. The large variations in the values of the Curie depth as compared to the smaller dimension of the study area explained the complex geodynamic process of the region. Magnetic basement of around 2.8 km and 9.4 km for the region have also been calculated using Euler decomvolution method. We also presented a separate map , showing the spatial distribution of volcanic plugs in the region which are belief to control the thermo-tectonics of the region.

Geoelectric model of the sedimentary cover in the junction zone of the Vilyui Syneclise and the Pre-Verkhoyansk marginal trough

This article presents the results of magnetotelluric studies conducted in the junction zone of the Vilyui Syneclise (Linden Depression) and the Pre-Verkhoyansk Marginal Trough. The study aimed to construct a geoelectric model of the sedimentary cover of this area based on a series of latitudinal and meridional profiles...

Geothermal Field Distribution Characteristics and Controlling Factors in the Moliqing Fault Depression, Yitong Basin

The Moliqing Fault Depression, located in the southwestern part of the Yitong Basin, is a Cenozoic strike–slip pull-apart basin controlled by the northern segment of the Tan-Lu Fault Zone. Based on measured formation temperature data from 41 wells and rock thermophysical property data from 41 wells in the study area, t...

Determination of the Crustal Thicknesses of Parts of SouthSouth, Nigeria, Using Bouguer Gravity Data

This study presents two-dimensional (2D) gravity modeling of the South-South Nigeria crust to investigate its subsurface structure and tectonic stability. The study area, bounded by Latitude 6.00°E–7.00°E and Longitude 4.00°N–5.00°N, was analyzed using Bouguer gravity data to construct detailed 2D models. These models...

Geothermal Potential Assessment of the Agadem Petroleum Basin (Eastern Niger) and Energy Evaluation

The Agadem Basin is located in the southeastern part of the Republic of Niger. The structural setting is dominated by faulted and tilted blocks arranged in networks of horsts, grabens, and half-grabens, which have favored both hydrocarbon accumulation and deep fluid circulation. These characteristics also make the area...

Insights into the Thermal Structure of the Manila Trench from Curie Point Depth–Derived Heat Flow

The thermal structure of subduction zones plays an important role in understanding lithospheric dynamics and can be inferred from surface heat flow data. This study presents the first Curie Point Depth-derived heat flow model for the Manila Trench region. Curie Point Depth (CPD) estimates were derived using magnetic an...
