Abstract
The progression of supramolecular chirality in synthetic helical assemblies relates directly with the structure of building block, consequently, the generation of right- and left-handed helical assemblies from single component system is highly challenging. Herein, we demonstrate the coupling of designed PBI-Ind building block and solvent to direct the chirality progression in initially formed metastable helical assemblies in DMSO/THF toward opposite supramolecular helicities by subtle regulation of microenvironment. The combined experimental results suggest generation of higher order right-handed superhelical assemblies upon aging (accelerated by heating-cooling cycle) under strong hydrophobic conditions while weakening of hydrophobic effect led to the generation of superhelical assemblies with opposite handedness. Interestingly, identical growth pathways were followed every time during self-assembly process yet the regulated hydrophobic effect controlled the choice of PBI-Ind molecules to engage in hydrogen bonding interactions among themselves and/or with proton acceptor good cosolvent which served as the deciding factor to direct the chiral orientation of supramolecular assemblies.
In this work, we describe the demanding synthesis of two core-twisted Z-shaped perylenediimide derivatives, 1 and 2, together with the separation of their individual M and P enantiomers. Z-PDI 1 exhibits axial chirality as its only source of asymmetry, whereas Z-PDI 2 incorporates also peripheral stereogenic centers. T...

The concept of homochirality is fundamental to living systems, where biopolymers exhibit a uniform chiral signature. The absence of heterochiral or racemic biopolymers in nature highlights the importance of homochirality in precise molecular recognition, efficient packing, and controlled folding for maintaining cellula...

Short peptides are versatile building blocks for self-assembled biomaterials due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and ease of preparation. Most studies of short-peptide self-assembly involve aromatic residues such as phenylalanine or peptides containing terminal capping groups, where π-π interactions play a...

We report a highly effective and universal strategy for linking small achiral functional molecules with amyloid fibrils, enabling efficient transfer of chirality from the chiral amyloid network to supramolecularly co-assembled entities. This seeding-and-co-assembly approach, based on incorporating functional molecules...

We report the solvent-dependent self-assembly of 1-Py2, a novel bifuran-imide building block functionalized with terminal pyrene units and an enantiopure, alanine-derived chiral side chain. In pure tetrahydrofuran, 1-Py2 exists as a monomer with no electronic circular dichroism (ECD) signal. Increasing the water conten...
