The Economic and Digital Development Trends of Trade Enterprises in Ukraine and Their Impact on the Transformation of Management Systems
Abstract
Digital transformation is fundamentally reshaping the operating environment of trade enterprises. However, contemporary research has not sufficiently examined the relationship between structural changes in the trade sector, the development of e-commerce, and the transformation of enterprise management systems. Addressing this research gap is the primary focus of the present study. The aim of the article is to identify the economic and digital development trends of trade enterprises in Ukraine and to substantiate their impact on the transformation of management systems in the digital economy. The methodological framework is based on a system approach and incorporates methods of analysis and synthesis, statistical, structural, comparative, and graphical analysis. The study relies on official statistical data provided by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, international analytical reports, and recent scholarly publications on digital transformation, e-commerce, and enterprise management. The findings indicate that during 2014–2025, the development of Ukraine’s trade enterprises was characterized by a decline in the number of active business entities, increased concentration of economic activity, the enlargement of active enterprises, and significant structural changes within the trade sector. The study demonstrates that the retail segment has strengthened its position in terms of both employment and sales volumes, while wholesale trade continues to play a system-forming role in the sector. The results also confirm that e-commerce has exhibited stable growth; however, the adoption of CRM systems, mobile applications, analytical platforms, and other digital management tools has progressed considerably more slowly than the expansion of digital customer interaction channels. This disparity reveals a significant gap between the digital presence of enterprises and their actual level of digital maturity. The scientific novelty of the study lies in substantiating the cause-and-effect relationship between the structural and economic transformation of the trade sector, the expansion of e-commerce, and the necessity of transforming management systems through the integration of marketing tools, information systems, and data. The article proposes a conceptual framework for the transition from a functionally fragmented management model to an integrated, customer-oriented, and data-driven management system that ensures the coordination of marketing, logistics, financial, and operational processes. The practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of applying its findings to assess the readiness of trade enterprises for digital transformation, develop digital development strategies, improve marketing tools, implement omnichannel customer interaction models, and enhance the efficiency of managerial decision-making in the digital economy.
