METHODOLOGY OF FORMING INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN THE CONTEXT OF STUDENTS' PROFESSIONAL ORIENTATIONS IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Abstract
The article addresses the formation of intercultural communicative competence in university English language teaching with regard to students' professional field. The main assumption is simple: a single cultural module for all fields does not yield sufficient results. A student's future profession determines their intercultural communication needs. On this basis four broad fields are distinguished: philology and languages; pedagogy; economics and business; exact and natural sciences. For each field the article defines the main focus, the leading competence, teaching methods, a sample task and assessment criteria. A four-stage general model isproposed: awareness, analysis, practice, reflection. The model combines professional English content with intercultural education within a single lesson.
