Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of project-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in fostering students’ discipline and spiritual character at MTs Sabilal Akhyar Stabat. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design involving the principal, PAI teachers, and students. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of project activities. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, while analysis involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Previous studies have generally examined project-based learning in broader contexts, with limited attention to its implementation in Islamic junior secondary schools and its role in integrating discipline and spiritual character formation. This study addresses this gap by examining PBL within PAI instruction at MTs Sabilal Akhyar Stabat. The findings show that project-based PAI learning promotes discipline through punctuality, responsibility, task completion, and compliance with school regulations. Spiritual character develops through reflection, group discussions, religious practices, and Islamic value-based assignments. Teachers function as facilitators and role models in guiding students to apply Islamic values. Character formation is supported by teacher commitment, structured religious activities, and school management, although limited instructional time, varied student readiness, and external environmental influences remain challenges.
