Economic Growth and Sustainable Development through Emerging Digital Business Models
Abstract
Digital transformation has significantly reshaped contemporary economic systems by introducing innovative digital business models that redefine value creation, delivery, and consumption processes. Emerging models such as platform-based ecosystems, artificial intelligence-driven services, digital marketplaces, fintech solutions, sharing economy platforms, and data-driven enterprises are creating new opportunities for enhancing productivity, entrepreneurship, market accessibility, and economic competitiveness. At the same time, these digital innovations provide mechanisms for promoting sustainable development through improved resource efficiency, reduced environmental impacts, inclusive economic participation, and the advancement of green technologies. This study explores the relationship between emerging digital business models, economic growth, and sustainable development by examining how technology-enabled business approaches contribute to economic and environmental objectives. The study adopts a conceptual research approach based on an extensive review of existing literature related to digital transformation, business model innovation, sustainable development, and economic performance. The proposed framework highlights the role of digital capabilities, innovation capacity, and technology adoption as key drivers influencing economic outcomes and sustainability performance. The study further identifies critical challenges associated with digital transformation, including digital inequality, cybersecurity concerns, regulatory complexities, and environmental costs of digital infrastructure. The findings provide theoretical insights into the evolving role of digital business models in shaping sustainable economic growth and offer directions for organizations, policymakers, and researchers to develop responsible and inclusive digital strategies for future economic development.
