Abstract

We determine the exact quantum communication and entanglement-distribution capacities of three fundamental bosonic channels, namely thermal loss, thermal amplification and additive Gaussian noise, assisted by operations that completely preserve positive partial transpose (PPT). These operations are more powerful than local operations and classical communication (LOCC), but cannot generate distillable entanglement on their own. For thermal loss, the unconstrained capacity coincides with the Pirandola-Laurenza-Ottaviani-Banchi (PLOB) bound throughout the non-entanglement-breaking regime. The corresponding upper bounds are also attained for thermal amplification and additive noise. We extend these results to energy-constrained communication, establishing exact capacities for all three channels at every prescribed mean input energy. Our results solve a class of bosonic capacity problems under PPT assistance and establish exact benchmarks for determining whether the same communication rates can be achieved via LOCC alone.

Efficient capacity-achieving entanglement generation with application to pure-loss Bosonic channels

While the ultimate limits on the rate of quantum communication over noisy channels are well-established, very few efficient coding schemes achieving these limits are known. This contrasts sharply with transmitting classical data over classical channels, where polar codes and low-density parity-check codes both efficien...

Energy-constrained two-way capacity bounds for noisy Gaussian channels

A gap between achievable rates and converse bounds persists for energy-constrained bosonic communication in the presence of excess noise. We derive a unified adaptive weak-converse bound for thermal attenuation, noisy amplification, and additive Gaussian noise under an unconditional mean transmitted-photon-number const...

Entanglement-of-formation potentials for feedback-assisted classical communication and randomness distillation

We develop entanglement-of-formation potentials for feedback-assisted classical communication and one-way randomness distillation. For a finite-dimensional quantum channel without initial shared entanglement, an exact amortization theorem bounds the increase of message information plus entanglement remaining across the...

Energy-constrained two-way capacities of pure-loss and quantum-limited amplifier channels

We determine the two-way quantum, entanglement-distribution, private, and secret-key capacities of the pure-loss bosonic channel under an unconditional mean transmitted-photon-number constraint. For transmissivity $\eta$ and mean photon number $N$, all four capacities coincide and are given by $g(N)-g((1-\eta)N)$, wher...

Strong converse for the quantum capacity of the pure-loss bosonic channel

This paper reports the proof of a strong converse for the unconstrained quantum capacity of the pure-loss bosonic channel. At every fixed rate above capacity, the entanglement-generation fidelity of every code is bounded by a constant times the reciprocal of the number of channel uses. The bound holds without an energy...
