The new megasecopteran family Rasnahymenidae fam. nov. (Insecta: Megasecoptera) from the Upper Permian Isady locality of Vologda Region, Russia
Abstract
A new megasecopteran genus and species Rasnahymen arakelyani gen. et sp. nov. is described on the basis of a whole wing in good preservation from the Upper Permian (the Poldarsa Formation, Severodvinian Stage) locality of Isady, Vologda Region, Russia. For the new genus, a new family Rasnahymenidae fam. nov. is established. After re-examination of Issadohymen, described earlier from the same locality in Moravohymenidae, this genus is included in a new family. While being the latest representative of the order, the new family possesses many plesiomorphic characters of the wing shape and its venation. The presence of common plesiomorphic characters of the new family with Diaphanopterodea is discussed.
