Abstract

Olea europaea L. (olive) has been acknowledged for its therapeutic properties, especially in addressing illnesses associated with oxidative stress. This study examines the hepatoprotective efficacy of flavonoid-rich extracts derived from Olea europaea L. in the context of chemically induced liver damage. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of bioactive substances such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, and secoiridoids, noted for their significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.Hepatic injury was generated experimentally with hepatotoxic chemicals, resulting in substantial increases in serum liver indicators such as alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase, signifying hepatic damage. Treatment with Olea europaea extracts significantly restored these biochemical markers and enhanced liver architecture. The preventive benefits were mainly ascribed to flavonoids' capacity to scavenge reactive oxygen species, diminish lipid peroxidation, and regulate inflammatory pathways implicated in the advancement of liver injury. The findings substantiate the traditional application of Olea europaea and underscore its flavonoids as potential natural agents For the prevention and management of oxidative stress-associated hepatic disorders.
