The Neotropical genus Kempnyia Klapálek, 1914 (Plecoptera: Perlidae), endemic to Brazil, currently comprises 36 valid species and has been the focus of increasing taxonomic and molecular studies in recent decades. Despite these advances, the diversity of the genus remains incompletely known. In this study, we describe a new species, Kempnyia bispoi sp. n., based on an integrative approach combining morphological evidence and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences. Species delimitation methods (ABGD, ASAP, PTP, and bPTP) and Maximum Likelihood analyses consistently support the recognition of the new species. Kempnyia bispoi sp. n. is distinguished by a unique orange-and-black maculation pattern, unprecedented within the genus, although similar patterns occur in distantly related South American Perlidae, suggesting convergent evolution. The species is recorded from three Atlantic Forest localities in southeastern Brazil and appears to be rare, given extensive sampling efforts. In addition to the species description, we discuss the occurrence and evolutionary implications of similar maculation patterns in other Neotropical perlids and provide an updated taxonomic overview of Kempnyia. These findings highlight the importance of integrative taxonomy and continued sampling efforts, even in well-studied regions, for uncovering hidden biodiversity.
We report trematodes conforming to the generic concept of Parachrisomon Madhavi, 2008, infecting multiple species of goatfishes (Mullidae) from Moreton Bay (south-eastern Queensland) and off Lizard Island (northern Great Barrier Reef) on the eastern coast of Australia, and from Ningaloo Reef on the western coast. Initi...

Abstract The family Moniligastridae Claus, 1880 remains taxonomically poorly resolved, and its actual species diversity is likely severely underestimated. Despite its ecological significance as an East Asian endemic species, Drawida gisti Michaelsen, 1931 has been studied almost exclusively from non-taxonomic perspecti...
Abstract Therodamas comprises copepods that parasitize marine, brackish-water and freshwater fishes, and currently includes eight valid species. In this study, a new species for this genus was described from the gills of Trachelyopterus galeatus collected in the Jari River, eastern Amazon, Brazil. Parasites were analyz...

The phylogenetic position of Pacificampa remains unclear, but the present phylogeny based on the 18S rRNA gene indicates a close relationship between Pacificampa and the campodeid genus Metriocampa Silvestri, 1911 and suggests the non-monophyly of the subfamily Campodeinae.

The new species Bathynomus tuebingoborikensis sp. nov., discovered in an historic museum collection, is described. We provide preliminary phylogenetic analyses of the genus, including extant and fossil species, using morphological characters. We reconstruct the evolutionary origin of the genus in the Caribbean, and sug...

Abstract A new species, previously identified as Megalonema platanum, is described as Megalonema tinga from the Paranapanema River basin, based on morphological (morphometry and meristic) and DNA-barcoding analyses. Body proportions based on 28 measurements in 25 specimens of M. tinga and 10 of M. platanum showed a hig...
