2026 · International journal of research and scientific innovation · 0 citations

Abstract

The concept of Smart-Eco Bioproduction (SEB) developed by the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. It integrates three key aspects environment, economy, and society, which are integrated into the food supply system. SEB aims to produce safe and healthy food products supported by healthy plant cultivation. This study focuses on the social aspects of SEB implementation and the challenges of providing healthy food in Sleman Regency. Using a qualitative research design with a critical constructivism approach. The research involved farmers, agricultural service employees, and extension workers as informants. Findings indicate that SEB implementation engages various institutions, including the agricultural service, farmer groups, certification bodies, universities, and marketing partners. SEB is generally interpreted as eco-friendly farming practices that avoid chemical inputs and emphasize sustainability. However, several challenges remain, such as limited digital marketing capacity, inadequate irrigation systems, and high dependence on farmer group leaders. Moreover, while SEB is understood as a sustainable farming model, its role within the broader framework of healthy food provision requires clearer positioning. To strengthen SEB, farmers need capacity building in both technical and managerial aspects, alongside greater cross-sectoral collaboration. Therefore, strengthening partnerships and institutional support is also essential to ensure the sustainability of SEB in Sleman.
