TL;DR
The modified thoracolumbar vertebral bone quality score TLVBQ was associated with QCT-derived thoracolumbar vBMD and hip-defined osteoporosis in patients with DLS and may serve as a convenient MRI-based vertebral bone quality indicator for osteoporosis risk screening in patients with severe DLS.
Among lipid parameters evaluated, only high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC) was positively associated with VBQ scores; however, this weak association did not significantly compromise the diagnostic performance of VBQ for osteoporosis.

BACKGROUND
Osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) are prevalent but frequently remain unrecognized. While bone mineral density (BMD) is the primary assessment tool, MRI-based parameters associated with bone and muscle quality may offer additional value, yet sex-specific analyses are limited, despite sex d...

Background Previous studies have demonstrated that a spongy cement distribution pattern is associated with superior clinical and radiological outcomes in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs). However, the relationship between MRI-based vertebral bone quality (VBQ) score and spongy cement d...

VBQ can serve as an opportunistic exploratory screening marker of low BMD and FBQcsf may complement VBQ by identifying early marrow-related changes, although further validation is required.

Thoracic and lumbar vertebroplasty yielded comparable 2-year PROMs with no statistically significant differences detected between cohorts, suggesting that the vertebral region may not be a major determinant of patient-reported recovery following vertebroplasty for OVCFs.

Quantitative computed tomography (QCT) is increasingly used for preoperative bone quality assessment in spine surgery. However, established QCT osteoporosis thresholds are based on lumbar reference regions and are frequently extrapolated to the thoracic spine, despite anatomical and biomechanical differences....
