Exploring University Heritage as Linked Data: A Demonstration of the Jagiellonian University Heritage Metadata Portal
Abstract
Historical university heritage resources are often distributed across libraries, archives, and museums, making it difficult to connect information about people, places, works, and events across institutional boundaries. This demo presents the Jagiellonian University Heritage Metadata Portal (JUHMP), developed within the CHExRISH project as a semantic portal integrating metadata from the Jagiellonian Library, the University Archives, and the University Museum into a shared RDF knowledge graph based on CIDOC-CRM. JUHMP supports semantic browsing, entity-centered exploration, curated collections, relationship discovery, recommendations, and SPARQL querying. The demonstration presents two complementary user scenarios: exploratory family-history research through the graphical interface and scholarly biographical analysis using SPARQL. Together, these scenarios illustrate how JUHMP enables users to move from isolated records to interconnected evidence, supporting discovery, contextualization, and reuse of university cultural heritage data.
