Abstract

Abstract: In the knowledge economy, knowledge has become one of the most important strategic assets through which organizations gain a competitive advantage. This has emphasized the importance of knowledge management (KM) as a scientific methodology for investing in intellectual capital. This research paper aims to explore the concept of knowledge management, analyze its impact on institutional performance, and apply it to the Sudanese Railway Corporation as a case study to bridge the knowledge gap in the Sudanese environment. The research problem focuses on the low performance of employees in the corporation, which can be attributed to the weak implementation of knowledge management initiatives, despite the availability of expertise. The theoretical and analytical results, supported by previous studies, revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between knowledge management processes (knowledge discovery, capture, sharing, and application) and improved organizational performance. The process of “knowledge sharing” had the greatest impact on improving employee performance. The study concludes that effective knowledge management is a vital strategic tool for improving performance, enhancing operational efficiency, stimulating innovation, and enabling the organization to achieve excellence and sustainability in the business environment. Based on this, the paper recommends that the Sudanese Railway Corporation adopt a clear and integrated knowledge management strategy, promote an organizational culture that encourages sharing and learning, invest in the necessary technological infrastructure, and design incentive systems linked to employee contributions to knowledge-based activities. It also suggests conducting future applied studies to deepen understanding and assess long-term impact.
