Limits of Western International Relations Research: Bias, Theory and Decontextualisation
Abstract
Limits of Western International Relations Research: Bias, Theory and Decontextualisation undertakes a dual inquiry: it examines methodological practices in international relations (IR) research and evaluates the quality of media reporting, with the 2008 Russo-Georgian War serving as the primary case study. The secondary aim, which is necessary for a proper understanding of the first, is to reassess interpretations of the conflict itself. This book engages with established debates concerning objectivity, representational equity, and methodological pluralism in IR research. It advocates for more epistemologically balanced, geographically diverse, and methodologically transparent approaches to scholarly knowledge production and storage in the field.
