Investigation of the adsorption kinetic of Cd(II) from aqueous solution using biochar derived from sugarcane bagasse
Abstract
In this report, adsorption kinetics of Cd(II) onto biochar derived from sugarcane bagasse from an aqueous solution were investigated using 3 kinetic models: pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion. The obtained results show that the uptake of Cd(II) using biochar derived from sugarcane bagasse occurs in 4 stages: (i) bulk diffusion; (ii) surface process; (iii) intraparticle diffusion; and (iv): surface interaction. By comparing RMSE, c2 and R2 values calculated via the least squares method and the Solver Add-in function in Excel software, the pseudo-second-order model gave the best fit with the experimental data with RMSE = 0.3877, c2 = 0.2790 and R2 = 0.9918. This study is useful in determining the possible pathways and mechanisms during the adsorption process.
