Abstract

ABSTRACT The need for metals and their alloys capable of functioning in severe environmental conditions caused by repeated mechanical stresses and intense wear has resulted in the creation of Inconel alloys. Among these, Inconel 625 stands out as a significant superalloy that exhibits outstanding resistance to wear, corrosion and creep resulting from thermal stresses. Machining Inconel 625 presents challenges and it is crucial to concentrate on the machining processes. This study investigates the factors involved and the outcomes achieved through Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) turning of Inconel 625. Various test specimens are machined by adjusting the levels of process parameters. The current study investigates the effect of CNC turning process variables: spindle speed (V), feed rate (f) and depth of cut (a) on machining performance measures namely Tool Wear Rate (TWR), Surface Roughness (Ra) and Material Removal Rate (MRR). The best sample is determined through a specialized Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) numerical optimization method called Fuzzy-TOPSIS (the Fuzzy version of the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution). The optimal experimental conditions were found with V = 1250 rpm, f = 0.1 mm/rev, a = 0.3 mm, with ideal responses of SR 0.5919 µm, TWR 0.0109 mm3/min, and MRR 1.1279 mm3/min.
