The Younger Dryas (YD, 12,900–11,700 years before present) event offers a key opportunity to investigate climate system responses to abrupt perturbations, yet regional hydroclimate responses in northeastern China remain debated. Here we reconstruct the spatial fingerprint of YD hydroclimate variability using a comprehensive fossil pollen data set. Our results show regionally coherent cooling but strong spatial heterogeneity in precipitation. At YD onset, northern regions became drier, whereas southern areas experienced slight wetting. By YD termination, precipitation increased significantly in most regions, while changes in the interior was limited. Comparison with climate model simulations indicated that these patterns were likely associated with a YD‐related weakening and subsequent recovery of moisture transport, superimposed on a persistent poleward and inland expansion of atmospheric circulation. Previously reported spatially inconsistent proxy signals can be reconciled by the high tolerance of boreal forests to low‐precipitation conditions.
The Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP) is the heat engine of the global climate system and has a major impact on the tropical hydroclimate, yet rainfall reconstructions from this core region remain scarce. Here, we present multi‐proxy hydroclimate reconstructions from marine sediment core GeoB17429‐2, recovered off the c...

Central American precipitation is vital to agricultural and economic stability, but poorly constrained past hydroclimate variability limits future forecasts. Here, we reconstruct 1,200 years of precipitation and atmospheric circulation from sedimentary plant wax hydrogen isotope ratios and XRF spectroscopy from Lak...

Recent hydrological drought in the US Southwest has occurred under exceptional warming, intensifying water deficits in the Colorado River and Rio Grande basins. Yet the long-term role of temperature in modulating severe and persistent droughts remains poorly understood because regional temperature reconstructions are s...

Hydroclimate in Portugal is influenced by the North Atlantic subtropical high‐pressure system (the Azores High) and by internal climate modes, most prominently the North Atlantic Oscillation, which may shift in position and/or intensity due to anthropogenic climate change. The development of high‐resolution paleocl...
