Assessment of Small-Scale Wind Power under Different Climatic Conditions in Aliero, Northwestern Nigeria
Abstract
The endemic electricity shortage across the counties in Nigeria requires continuous progress in renewable electricity in mix of electricity sources in Nigeria. The rapid increase in installed capacity of wind power requires continuous progress in wind power prediction techniques in addressing the intermittent effect of wind in electricity generation, which is address in the novel approach adopted in this research. Hourly wind speed data (2013-2023) scaled to typical day across the seasons of the year in is utilised to address the effect of wind resources intermittency in electricity generation. Spline interpolation model is developed in estimating the wind turbine power output based on the turbine parameters made available by the wind turbine manufacturers. The findings of the study revealed that, winter season has highest power output followed by Autumn and Spring seasons respectively, while the lowest power output was recorded in the summer season. the performance analysis of the selected wind turbine revealed that even with a storage option, the selected wind turbine cannot supply uninterrupted power to the typical household electricity demand data utilised in the study.
