Comparison of fracture resistance between two internal connections implant-abutment designs under compressive loading-An In Vitro study
Abstract
Context: Longevity and success of dental implants play an important role in oral health of a patient. One of the key factors influences the stability and reliability of dental implants on internal connection of abutment to the implant body. Therefore, this article evaluates the fracture resistance of two implant abutment internal connection design under compressive loading. Aims: This study aims to compare the fracture resistance of internal conical and internal hex design connection of implant -abutment under compressive load by finite element analysis. Study design: Finite Element Analysis Materials and methods: 3D model of implant with two type of implant abutment connection internal hex (model 1) and internal conical (model II), screw and bone were designed using modelling software Cero 2.0. Meshing was done by Hypermesh V11.0. The force of 120N in axial, oblique (at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of implant) and axial and oblique direction was applied. Analysis was done by Ansys V19. Result: On comparison internal hex implant-abutment connection (model I) to internal conical implant abutment connection (model II); the model I show more displacement in all the directions i.e. in an axial, oblique and, axial and oblique direction. Conclusion: Maximum deformity is seen in the internal hex implantabutment connection in comparison to internal conical implant-abutment connection, therefore internal conical implant-abutment connections show more fracture resistance under compressive loading compared to internal hex implant-abutment connection.
