Abstract
The nonstoichiometric iron-based mixed phosphate (Na5.12Fe4.44(PO4)2(P2O7)2, N5.12FPP) has emerged as a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), benefiting from its low cost, intrinsic safety, and robust structural framework. However, its practical application remains limited by intrinsically low electronic conductivity, sluggish Na-ion transport kinetics, and insufficient long-term cycling stability. In this work, an aliovalent Ti-doping strategy is proposed to modulate the local crystal structure and electronic-state distribution of nonstoichiometric N5.12FPP materials via spray drying following by solid-state calcination method. After optimizing the Ti-doping level, the Na4.72Fe4.24Ti0.2(PO4)2(P2O7)2 (N5.12FPP-0.2Ti) cathode delivers a reversible capacity of 128.5 mAh g–1 at 0.1 C, retains 104.2 mAh g–1 even at 20 C, and maintains 90.05% of its initial capacity after 3000 cycles at 20 C in SIBs. Moreover, a full sodium-ion cell assembling with N5.12FPP-0.2Ti as the positive electrode and commercial hard carbon as the negative electrode achieves a maximum gravimetric energy density of 302.9 Wh kg–1 and power density of 30.4 W kg–1. Therefore, these results demonstrate that Ti-doping can reinforce the host framework, facilitate Na-ion transport, and improve the electrochemical performance of Fe-based mixed-phosphate cathode materials, highlighting its potential for advanced SIBs.
Na4Fe3(PO4)2P2O7 (NFPP), an iron-based mixed phosphate–pyrophosphate cathode material, has emerged as one of the most commercially promising candidates for large-scale sodium-ion battery (SIB) energy storage applications. Its exceptional characteristics—an ultralow volume change of less than 4% during Na+ de/intercalat...
Na4Fe3(PO4)2P2O7 (NFPP) is regarded as a highly promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) in energy storage systems. In particular, the low cost and environmental friendliness of NFPP render it especially suitable for large-scale commercialization. Nevertheless, the inherently low ionic/electronic co...

The commercial viability of polyanionic Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) cathodes in sodium-ion batteries is critically hampered by its intrinsically low electronic conductivity and structural degradation upon prolonged cycling. Herein, we break the conventional equal-ratio multi-element doping paradigm and propose an asymmetric mult...

Aqueous sodium-ion batteries (ASIBs) are considered promising candidates for large-scale energy storage due to the natural abundance and low cost of sodium. However, the practical application of NASICON-type Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) cathodes in aqueous electrolytes is severely hindered by structural degradation and material d...

Na3V2(PO4)3 is a promising cathode for all-solid-state sodium batteries (ASSBs) owing to its robust structural stability. However, the direct integration of low electronic conductivity Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode with a solid electrolyte leads to severe interfacial resistance and sluggish reaction kinetics, which limit the e...

Na4Co3(PO4)2P2O7 is a representative mixed polyanionic cathode with a high operating voltage and high energy density. However, insufficient cycling stability is the core bottleneck constraining the widespread application of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, we propose a synergistic strategy that combines non-stoichi...
