As part of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Galileo uses the NeQuick-G algorithm to provide ionospheric correction to single-frequency users. Within the framework of a research project, an improved Galileo single-frequency ionospheric correction approach has been proposed by incorporating regional ionospheric characteristics into the algorithm rather than relying solely on a global ionospheric model. The proposed algorithm that was designed to operate in long-term, short-term, and real-time mode has been evaluated over Cyprus and is going to be tested over a broader European region. The current study presents results from the real-time mode improvement of the algorithm over Nicosia, Cyprus. The real-time mode approach facilitates the local adjustment of Committee Consultative for Ionospheric Radiowave propagation (CCIR) files and the Az ionization level, which are crucial elements that control the ionospheric electron density profile in NeQuick-G. The Nicosia-specific CCIR maps are adjusted by using auto-scaled real time (every 5 min) foF2 and M(3000)F2 ionospheric characteristics from the Cyprus Ionosonde. The Az value is optimized using vertical total electron content (VTEC) measurements from a local GNSS receiver obtained from the previous day. This paper demonstrates the performance of this real-time improvement method, tested over Nicosia, Cyprus, using a retrospective dataset spanning 2014–2023. Results from the proposed real-time approach are in better agreement with the measured GNSS VTEC, compared to standard NeQuick-G operation, especially under high-solar-activity periods.
Additional results are presented to assess the applicability of a methodology for refining the ionospheric delay of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) signals in single-frequency measurements for a network of remote receivers using data obtained at a reference receiver located at the center of the network. The...

The present research reveals the ionospheric response over Europe during two strong geomagnetic storms (class G5 and G3) on 12–13 November 2025. In the analysis of the manifestation of geomagnetic conditions and to describe in detail the selected geomagnetic disturbances, the Dst index was considered. The ionospheric r...

This study investigates the impact of Galileo ionosphere-free (IF) dual-frequency combinations on the performance of Precise Point Positioning (PPP). Four IF combinations were analyzed: E1–E5a, E1–E6, E1–E5b, and E1–E5 (AltBOC). The analysis was conducted using 60 days of GNSS data from seven Brazilian stations located...

Ionospheric total electron content (TEC) disturbance is the core factor leading to long-range high-frequency shortwave Ionospheric sounding system propagation path deviation, and traditional physical model correction methods have poor real-time performance and low accuracy under complex ionospheric conditions. Aiming a...
To address the issue of long ambiguity resolution (AR) time for existing medium-to-long baseline reference stations, this paper proposes a rapid ambiguity fixing method with empirical ionospheric constraints. The method directly treats the L1 and wide-lane (WL) ambiguities as unknown parameters to be estimated and perf...
