Abstract

Rice blast, caused by Pyricularia oryzae, is one of the most destructive diseases causing substantial yield losses worldwide, necessitating the development of sustainable management strategies. The present study evaluated the efficacy of different organic amendments in managing leaf and neck blast of rice in two susceptible varieties, Pusa Basmati 1121 and CSR 30, under field conditions over two consecutive years. Ghanajeevamrit @ 200 kg ha-1 was the most effective treatment, recording the lowest leaf blast severity (30.86% in Pusa Basmati 1121 and 25.28% in CSR 30) and neck blast incidence (30.10% in Pusa Basmati 1121 and 29.46% in CSR 30). Ghanajeevamrit @ 200 kg ha-1 also resulted in the highest grain yield in both varieties, indicating its potential for both disease suppression and yield enhancement. Beejamrit (seed bio-priming agent) applied @ 100 ml kg-1 seed was the second most effective treatment, for controlling both leaf and neck blast. In contrast, desi cow manure @ 5000 kg ha-1 was comparatively less effective in suppressing both leaf and neck blast. The observed reduction in disease severity and enhancement of grain yield demonstrate the potential of Ghanajeevamrit and Beejamrit as sustainable alternatives for rice blast management. These findings highlight the potential of such eco-friendly inputs as effective components of integrated disease management strategies for sustainable rice production.

Efficacy of Seed Treatment and Foliar Application of New-Generation Fungicides for the Management of Anthracnose Caused by Colletotrichum Truncatum in Soybean

Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum truncatum (Schw.) Andrus and Moore is one of the most destructive diseases of soybean in India, resulting in considerable yield losses. The present investigation was conducted during Kharif 2023 at JNKVV, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), to evaluate the field efficacy of four fungicides (...

Evaluation of Fungicides and Stages of Their Application for the Management of False Smut Disease of Rice

Rice false smut, caused by Ustilaginoidea virens (Cooke) Takahashi, has emerged as an increasingly important constraint on rice productivity, particularly under favourable environmental conditions. Effective fungicide selection, coupled with precise application timing, is therefore crucial for minimising disease-associ...

Field Screening of Rice Genotypes against Leaf Folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenee)

Rice leaf folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenee), damages foliage and can reduce the performance of rice crops. Identifying rice genotypes with comparatively stable field resistance may support breeding programmes aimed at pest management. The present study evaluated rice genotypes against the leaf folder at the Ric...

Field-Level Susceptibility of Rice Varieties to The Asian Rice Gall Midge (Orseolia Oryzae) under Natural Infestation in Nalgonda District, Telangana, India

Host-plant resistance is the most sustainable option for managing the Asian rice gall midge, Orseolia oryzae. A three-year natural-infestation study (Kharif 2023–2025) evaluated the field-level susceptibility of four rice varieties—BPT 5204 (Samba Mahsuri), MTU 1010 (Cottondora Sannalu), Sheetal (WGL-3962) and KNM 1638...

Evaluation of Botanicals for the Management of Root-Knot Nematode (Meloidogyne graminicola) in Rice under Pot Conditions

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) production is constrained by several pests and diseases, including the rice root knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola. This study evaluated the effectiveness of nineteen fresh green-leaf botanical amendments into soil against M. graminicola. A pot experiment was conducted in a completely random...
