Abstract

This project focuses on the design and simulation of buck-boost converters using an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) based control technique for regulating the load voltage. DC-DC converters are widely used in power electronic systems where a controlled DC voltage is required from an input source. The buck-boost converter is particularly useful because its output voltage can be adjusted to a value either higher or lower than the input voltage. However, maintaining a constant output voltage under different input and load conditions can be challenging. Therefore, an effective control technique is required for stable and accurate voltage regulation. In this work, the buck-boost converter is designed according to the operating conditions, and calculations are carried out. Converter parameters, including duty ratio, inductance, capacitance, switching frequency, output voltage, and output current, are determined using the design equations. A conventional Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is developed for voltage regulation. Its performance is then compared with the proposed ANFIS controller under operating conditions. The ANFIS controller combines the learning capability of neural networks with the decision-making ability of fuzzy logic. The controller uses voltage error and change in voltage error as inputs and generates the control signal for the converter. The converter and control system are modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. The voltage and current responses of both controllers are analyzed and compared. The simulation results indicate that the ANFIS-controlled converter provides improved voltage regulation and better dynamic response than the conventional PI-controlled converter. The ANFIS controller shows better reference voltage tracking and maintains the output voltage effectively during changes in operating conditions. The comparative results demonstrate that ANFIS is a suitable intelligent control technique for handling the nonlinear behavior of buck-boost converters. Overall, this study highlights the potential of ANFIS-based control for achieving reliable, stable, and regulated DC output voltage in power electronic applications.
