Abstract

Objective

Study examined community health center healthcare staff's assessment of the acceptability, usefulness and ease of implementation of evidence-based organizational-level strategies to reduce burnout and improve well-being.

Methods

Four focus groups with a total of 22 healthcare professionals from four occupational domains: medical providers, medical support staff, dental staff and nursing staff. We analyzed the data using Rapid Qualitative Analysis enabling timely results to leaders.

Results

Participants highlighted organizational strengths (culture of teamwork and collaboration), and challenges (increased workload and inconsistent workflow). Respondents identified (1) workflow redesign; (2) advanced team-based care; (3) person-centered leadership training; and (4) flexible work schedules as organizational-level interventions that are acceptable, useful, easy to implement and therefore feasible to support workforce wellness.

Conclusions

Staff engagement in identification and implementation of health promotive strategies is key to long-term burnout reduction and workplace health promotion.
