Prototype of Automatic Heating Equipment with the Utilization of Thermo Electric Generator (TEG) Technology as Alternative Energy
Abstract
Heat energy is one of the most often wasted forms of energy (waste heat) in various thermal systems. This research aims to design and realize a prototype of an automatic heating device that utilizes Thermo Electric Generator (TEG) technology as an alternative energy source for energy recovery. This system integrates heating elements, inverters, batteries, and TEG modules of type SP1848-27145 to convert exhaust heat back into electrical energy. The research method used is an experimental method (Design and Construction), testing the characteristics of the TEG output voltage with temperature changes, the performance of the battery charging system, and the automatic temperature control response using a thermostat. The test results showed that the tool was successfully realized with dimensions of 30 cm x 20 cm x 15 cm. The TEG module produces an average voltage of 3.0 Volts and a current of 0.129 Amperes when the heating temperature is between 66°C and 100°C. The thermostat control system effectively maintains temperature stability with a hysteresis of 2°C. Although the energy conversion efficiency of the system is relatively low at 1.55%, this study has demonstrated that the exhaust heat from the heating element can be reused to charge the battery, thereby slowing the decline in battery voltage and improving overall energy-use efficiency.
