TL;DR

This study represents pioneering report on the new species of Fomitiporia bharatavarsa, a new lineage and sister group to F. aethiopica, which has been described and discussed with allied taxa in taxonomic and phylogenetic aspects.

Abstract

A new species of Fomitiporia is illustrated and described based on taxonomic studies and phylogenetic analyses. Fomitiporia bharatavarsa is characterized by perennial, resupinate basidiomes, circular pores (4–7 per mm), dimitic hyphal system, presence of hymenial setae, cystidioles, abundant rhomboid crystals, and thick‐walled broadly ellipsoid‐to‐subglobose basidiospores measuring 5.5–6.3 × 5.2–5.5 µm. Phylogenetic analyses inferred from ITS and nLSU rDNA sequences revealed that F. bharatavarsa represents a new lineage and formed a sister group to F. aethiopica , F. carpinea , F. erecta , F. mediterranea , F. pseudopunctata , F. punicata , and F. tsitsikamensis . Our study represents pioneering report on the new species of Fomitiporia , which has been described and discussed with allied taxa in taxonomic and phylogenetic aspects.

Molecular phylogeny and morphology reveal a new species, Heterocorticium cremeum (Auriculariaceae, Auriculariales) from China

In this study, a new species, Heterocorticium cremeum, is proposed based on morphological features and molecular evidence. The new species is characterized by resupinate, membranaceous to slightly coriaceous basidiomata with a smooth to slightly uneven and white to cream hymenial surface, a monomitic hyphal system comp...

Morphological and Phylogenetic Evidence Reveals Lepiota brunneodiscata sp. nov. From Pakistan

A new species, Lepiota brunneodiscata , is described from Punjab, Pakistan, based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic evidence (ITS and LSU sequences). It is distinguished from the phylogenetically closest relative, Lepiota ochraceofulva , by its small, off‐white to pale cream pileus with a darker brown d...

A New Species and a New Record of Coprinopsis ( Psathyrellaceae ) From Pakistan

During macrofungal surveys conducted in Dera Ghazi Khan, Pakistan, in 2023 and 2024, specimens of Coprinopsis were collected. Detailed morphoanatomical examinations combined with molecular analyses of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large subunit (28S) sequences, confirmed Coprinopsis deraghaziensis sp. nov...
