Exploiting WiFi Sensing for Localization-Aware AP Association in Hybrid LiFi/WiFi Networks
Abstract
Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is envisioned as a key enabler for 6G systems, supporting the joint use of spectrum and infrastructure. In this paper, we propose an ISAC-assisted Hybrid LiFi/WiFi Network (HLWN) where WiFi-based passive sensing is leveraged for user localization. The localization estimates are then used for LiFi access point (AP) association and resource allocation, enabling spatially-aware connectivity. Unlike conventional hybrid schemes relying on random assignment or instantaneous SINR, the proposed framework improves load balancing and enhances overall system performance. A localization-aided AP selection strategy is developed and evaluated under realistic indoor deployments with multiple LiFi and WiFi APs. Simulation results demonstrate that the ISAC-enabled HLWN achieves a higher sum rate, improved user fairness, and reduced outage probability compared to baseline hybrid networks without sensing. These findings highlight the potential of ISAC to complement hybrid LiFi/WiFi systems, enabling reliable communication and integrated localization capabilities.
