High-voltage power lines can induce alternating current (AC) voltages on nearby gas pipelines, creating safety and corrosion risks. This article presents a French case study involving three gas pipelines exposed to severe interference from a 225 kV dual-circuit line over 17 km (10.6 mi).A Initial simulations predicted voltages approaching 200 V in the steady state; nine earthing systems were installed to reduce them, but these were not sufficient to meet design criteria. A further study examined conductor arrangement and led to phase permutation on the power line. Field measurements confirmed a major mitigation effect, with voltage levels reduced by about a factor of four and AC current densities significantly lowered.
Electromagnetic induction is the primary interference effect of a high-voltage transmission line on a buried steel pipeline during normal steady state operation. The operating current directly affects the level of electromagnetic interference, which can induce an alternating current (AC) voltage and corresponding curre...

The increasing global energy demand and large-scale renewable energy resources integration have intensified concerns over power system stability, particularly at extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission level. Shunt capacitor banks are widely employed to enhance voltage stability, but their energization often introduces s...

High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission is ideal for long-distance, large-capacity power delivery. A DC common earth electrode can be used for multiple DC lines, reducing the difficulty of land acquisition and lowering investment in grounding leads in power construction. The operating conditions of DC common ea...

To meet the high-precision timing control requirements for voltage source insertion in synthetic tests, this paper investigates zero-crossing prediction of asymmetric power-frequency short-circuit currents. Two prediction algorithms—the variable forgetting factor recursive least squares (VFF-RLS) method and the improve...
